Mr. Abernathy has been considered by many as one of the top electrical educators in the
country and is the winner of the 2007 Mike Holt Enterprises, Inc. prestigious "TOP
GUN" award for his electrical presentation ability and National Electrical
Code knowledge.
Mr. Abernathy began his electrical career in the mid 80's after attending
a two(2) year technical school ( Charlottesville-Albemarle Technical Education
Center ). He also went on to be named ( at the time of his graduation ) the # 1
student in the schools electrical program history. All while also winning
Virginia's regional electrical VICA program competition and went on to also win
nationally as well as teaching electrical code at local community colleges.
After school he formed an electrical contracting business with his brother and
finally in the early 2000's formed his own electrical contracting business.
When asked why he never attended college he promptly replies - " Why?. I
meet electrical engineers with 20 years experience on a daily basis who know
nothing about the National Electrical Code® and how it is applied. I have worked
hard to be an EXPERT in this industry and nothing in college would have directed me
in that direction. "College does not define the man, the man defines
themselves through actions and dedication"
During his 20+ years dedication to the electrical industry he credits 100%
of what he knows from various mentors alone the way. When he was back in high school he credits Robert Barrett ( His
Electrical Instructor ) for opening his eyes up to Electricity and the rest was
history.
Over the past 20 + years Mr. Abernathy has achieved the highest
achievements in his industry from first becoming a "Master" Electrician to the
highest level of certifications in the ICC and IAEI ( NCPPI ) as well as in his state of
Virginia as a Certified Electrical Inspector and Plans Examiner.
Mr. Abernathy is also a NFPA® Electrical Section Member, Fire
Science and Technology Educators Section Member and Building Fire Safety
Systems Section Member. As you can see Mr. Abernathy has his hands in
everything that can change our lives and save our families.
In 2009, Paul completed a project that he co-authored with longtime friend
Gerry Beaumont of InterNACHI. The book is titled "How to Perform Electrical
Inspections", primarily designed to better explain electrical concepts to home
inspectors in a way they can retain it and use it in their daily inspection
ventures.
Here is a quote from Mr. Abernathy :
" While I have achieved a lot of success in the electrical industry from
my days as an electrical contractor, electrical educator and NEC® Consultant, I
still feel I have a unique gift to be able to break down the uniqueness of the
code to a level everyone can understand, grasp and utilize. Even to this day
that's a driving force in why I love teaching electrical codes to anyone that is
willing to listen."
Here is a quote from one of Paul's students. " You have educators and then
you have Mr. Abernathy. I have been to many seminars provided by other
nationally known electrical educators and Mr. Abernathy's seminars is by far the
best I have ever attended. You can see his passion in every word that rolls from
his tongue." - J. Harris of Richmond,VA
Mr. Abernathy is nationally renown as a leading educator and was a consultant
to Eaton® Cutler Hammers ECCN® program and is still to many municipal electrical
inspectors and educators around the US and Canada. Paul also appears in Mike
Holts 2008 Exam Prep Books and DVD Videos as a NEC® Code Expert and on NACHI.TV to help in
explaining the National Electrical Code for the NEXT generation of electrical
student. Mr. Abernathy is known around Virginia for his action packed and
exciting seminars explaining the NEC® and breaking down the Code into clear
